Five Year Review

On 1 October 2019 we opened the doors of ProPensions, as a brand new business hoping to pick up some professional trustee appointments and the occasional piece of employer consultancy work.

Five years on and the firm has grown far beyond where we could have hoped for at the outset.

Not only have we been appointed by 28 employers to be the trustee on their 34 pension schemes (plus two that we were appointed to but unfortunately became PPF transfer cases) as well as a handful of employer advisory roles, but we have built a fantastic team with Jane, Mike T and Richard bringing complementary experience for the benefit of our clients.

Across our client base we have now built up experience as trustees of working on the full range of issues that affect schemes, including corporate transactions, insurance transactions (three successful transactions completed to date, with more in the pipeline), working with overseas parent companies, as well as effectively managing the ongoing BAU requirements of running a successful scheme.  We’re proud to have built a particular niche in looking after schemes at the smaller end of the market in a proportionate and cost effective way. We have also introduced a successful sole trustee proposition, which makes up around one third of our current appointments.

To mark the occasion we held a party at the Corinthian Club in Glasgow on 3 October, which was attended by over 80 of our local clients and contacts, who have all in some way provided us with fantastic support to help get our business to where it is today.  The evening was a huge success and we want to thank all those who made it on the night, and will be sure to catch up soon with those who couldn’t be there.

In summary, at the five-year mark, it is certainly a case of ‘so far, so good’.

So what about the next five years?  Quite simply, more of the same.  We are looking to continue building on the steady growth that we have experienced to date.  This means working with engaged employers and trustee boards, as well as like-minded advisers, and bringing in new faces to support that growth at the right time.

We thoroughly enjoy what we do and are very excited to see what we can achieve before the ten year mark!
