Mike Kennedy

Mike has over twenty five years’ experience in the pensions industry as a consulting actuary and latterly as a professional pension trustee. 

 

After ten years as a partner with Barnett Waddingham, Mike became a director at Western Pension Solutions before setting up ProPensions in 2019. He is fully accredited by the Association of Professional Pension Trustees

Based in Glasgow, he has worked with trustee boards and sponsoring employers from a wide range of sectors right across the UK, providing services to the pension schemes of private and family owned businesses, Plcs and not-for-profit organisations.  His experience covers the full range of issues that can be faced by pension schemes, including:

  • Setting funding and investment strategies, reflecting the full range of employer covenant gradings 

  • Leading trustees and employers through discussions with the Pensions Regulator on scheme funding issues

  • Establishing and operating appropriate scheme governance frameworks

  • Advising trustee boards on how to deal with complex and often sensitive member issues

  • Securing bulk annuity contracts and dealing with the solvent wind up of the pension scheme

  • Involvement in liability management exercises operated by the sponsoring employer

  • Corporate transactions and restructuring exercises

  • Advice on PPF levy management options

  • Advising trustees of schemes through PPF assessment periods

 

Mike has also been a member of the Law Society of Scotland’s Pensions Committee since 2011.
