Provisional APPT Accreditation

May 2020
Several check boxes are marked with a gr

The Association of Professional Pension Trustees announced last week that around 40 trustees have been awarded provisional accreditation status, and I’m pleased to say that I was one of them.

This is a result of having passed the technical exam, obtained appropriate professional references and convinced the APPT that I am fit and proper. All that lies between provisional and full accreditation is the new multiple choice "Soft Skills" exam, which I haven’t had the opportunity to sit yet due to the lockdown restrictions.

The APPT announced the provisional accreditation option at the end of April, recognising the inevitable delay in many professional trustees being able to sit the Soft Skills exam.  This is a welcome interim step by the APPT until some sort of normality resumes and the exam can be done online.   Full credit to them also for the clarity and efficiency of the application process.

The prospect of sitting another exam does bring out the cold sweats (I thought those days were over in my 20s!) but the introduction of this new exam is another important step in raising the standards of DB scheme management.  Just need to pass the thing now…
